Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency providing a wide range of exceptional programs and services that improve the mental, social and physical health of infants, children and youth from the pre-natal stage to age 29, and their families.  With a range of community, residential and treatment services, we build strength and resilience through equitable, accessible, client-driven services, system leadership and advocacy. We provide individual, group and family interventions that include mental health counselling, autism services, education, outreach and referral, early intervention, day treatment and community support. In its Lead Agency role, Strides Toronto collaborates with 23 publicly funded infant, child and youth mental health (ICYMH) core service providers to design and implement system-level improvements that promote access, responsive service delivery and experience, and positive mental health outcomes for young people and families across Toronto’s diverse communities. The Child and Family Therapist is responsible for providing a broad range of therapeutic and service co-ordination services to children, youth and their families in the Scarborough and East York area, in the context of flexible service delivery to reduce barriers to service and accommodate client need.

The Child and Family Therapist provides family and individual assessments and counseling as well as group services to support children presenting with mental health concerns and their families in reaching their identified treatment goals.

Salary range:     $67,180 to $77,898 per annum

  • Provide supportive counselling and treatment utilizing client-centered, trauma informed, evidence-based interventions to children presenting with mental health concerns and their families in accordance with agency standards to support client and improve children’s mental health.
  • Consult and collaborate with community partners, agencies and individuals regarding children’s mental health to guide the development and implementation of treatment plans, and to ensure that service including admission/reason for referral and discharge planning is delivered in a clinically appropriate, coordinated, and timely fashion.
  • Enter clinical information into agency’s client information system and maintains appropriate, up-to-date clinical reports and recordings in accordance with agency policy and guidelines, and consistent with recording guidelines from accreditation bodies.
  • Incorporate and integrate ongoing learning, and evidence-based/informed practices to enhance quality clinical work. The Child and Family Therapist supports learning of new staff and/or colleagues.
  • Work in a safe manner and adheres to the established health and safety measures and practices in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and adheres to agency policies and procedures.


The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:

  • Registered member and in good standing with professional college to provide psychotherapy (Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario).
  • Master’s level education (Master of Social Work or equivalent).
  • One year of related experience post Master’s completion
  • Awareness of the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.


While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
  • Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.

  • A Vulnerable Sector police check.
